What Search Engines Look For and Why

Web searches are a lot more than they appear.  People searching for you, your product or service, enter key words that helps them find what they want or need.  We all do it everyday.  But how can you ensure that those key search words find your website?

Well, that’s the challenge.

To rank well for the topics that your website is built around requires a balancing act ... including creating great copy with appropriate meta tags (search engine optimization-SEO), a blog or FAQ and well-written web copywriting.

Using the following will get your website found and maintain high ranking on search engines.

  1. Keywords - Figure out the relevant question that searchers are asking that your content and business fulfills. 
  2. Title Tags and Headline - Title tags and search-friendly headlines get your site found because search engines offer relevant results. So, prominently reflect the words the searcher is using in the title of the page.  This is where good writing is so important. Your title tag is a headline too; your words or phrases must address the searcher’s own search words.  These words must be reflected in a convincing headline promising to answer the searcher’s inquiry.  
  3. Content - Keep it simple … Verbose is over in today’s communications; especially web copy.  Conviction, truth, timeliness, frequency and brevity rule. 
  4. Landing Page - Your landing page instantly communicates what’s going on to the visitor and is a road map (via links to each part) that provides more definition and increases clarity.

This approach ensures a reader won't hit the back button. You can’t score a reader, customer, or link if the benefit of the resource is not quickly communicated.  Never forget that search engines favor websites with pertinent and constantly-updated content.

You want your website to get found by the search engines.  Understanding how they work and what makes them work for you is critical to your website success or failure.  Makes sure visitors find you first; then keep them on your website with compelling, clear and concise copy.
