Web Home Pages Can Make or Break Website Success

Your website home page is paramount to your branding and image.  It needs to be the centerpiece of your website. The copy on that home page may determine whether a visitor will continue to read — or click out to a more “inviting” website.

Two Basic Home Page Strategies:

1. On the web, less is more
2. Tell people what’s in it for them, not what appeals to you

Less is more: Most people skim copy looking for the highlights of a new site. If we don’t find something immediately that holds our attention they click away.  YOU’VE LOST THEM.

Website Home Pages Include:

  • Short — paragraphs with a line of white space between each paragraph
  • Font size large enough to be read easily
  • Boldface subheads that provide important information by themselves
  • Leave the related copy for interior pages
  • Promote WIIFM – what’s in it for me
  • Use everyday language

Visitors Are Looking for What They Want or Need

You can do it your way … but visitors to any website are looking for what they want or need.  So, tell them about your product or service benefits.  Features should be mentioned, but visitors really care more about the benefits.

Well-written copy about what interests the potential buyers is required.

To summarize - good websites present home page copy that is:

  • Simple (brief, easy to read)
  • Targeted to what potential customers want to hear

HQZ creates Home Page copy that keeps your guests interested and clicking to read more.  Call us to get started today 949-454-6149.
